Fifty Police officers have started five-day training in Community Policing (CP) concept as the force continues to strengthen the proactive approach against crimes.

The officers were drawn from the departments of Traffic and Road Safety, Public Relations and Community Policing and Intervention Force. The training is being held at Kigali Metropolitan Police headquarters in Kigali.

According to the Director of Community Policing Superintendent Sam Rumanzi, the course is in line with the Rwanda National Police strategy to have all police officers trained in Community Policing.

During the course of the training, the officers will cover topics such as principles and the role of police in crime prevention and reduction, fighting against domestic violence and service delivery.

Other courses will include the core values of the RNP, force discipline and protection, police ethics, anti-drug abuse, human trafficking and anti-corruption and environmental strategies.

Supt. Rumanzi said the training is aimed at giving the officers more knowledge and skills to execute their tasks effectively.

“Utilise this space and chance, to reap more skills and understanding to partner with the community we are mandated to protect, to fight and prevent crimes, to further improve the level of security in our country,” Supt. Rumanzi told the officers.
