The hospital is now fully autonomous

 

King Faisal hospital is no longer a government institution after it was given a full   autonomous status.

The hospital which was founded in 1992, with the support of Saudi Fund is a leading health services provider in Rwanda and has been operating under the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), a   government body.

The  change of status has come with  come with  a  new name and the hospital is now  called King Faisal Hospital Rwanda from Kinga Faisal Hospital Department.

The hospital is a specialty and super specialty center handling national and regional referral cases.

Speaking at the event to announce the changes on Wednesday, the Prime Minister Dr. Pierre Damien Habumuremyi said that the changes are a breath of fresh air for the hospital in terms of patient centred care and service delivery.

The Primier said that the government will continue to offer a subsidy to the hospital but with an overall objective of one day becoming fully independent.

Habumuremyi said that the change will ensure that the hospital offers high quality medical services to Rwandans and the region.

« Being exemplary in this region and beyond is the desire of the president and he asked us as ministers to communicate to you. Second, we do not wish to see Rwandans rushing outside the country to seek medical care, women who want to deliver go to hospitals outside the country, we want to maximise the services and treat as many diseases as possible.

This is possible. We will provide whatever you need, you deserve better salaries, » he told staff members.

The minister of labor and public service Anastase Murekezi explained that the new changes come with streamlining the staff where the new body will recruit 600 employees.

Out of the existing staff 490 proved to be qualified and 110 more will be recruited.
