In these past 2 months of the year 2013, crimes have significantly reduced in Nyamasheke district compared to last year 2012.
This was said during the general security meeting for Nyamasheke District on Wednesday 27th.Feb.2013.
The general assembly that was chaired by the district Mayor Jean Baptiste Habyarimana with the commander of the army and Police Inspector in Nyamasheke district brought together all security councils and personnel that operate in the district.

The mayor said security is secure in the district but it would be better if it well maintained for the development of the people and the district in particular.
According to Chief Inspector of the Police in Nyamasheke district CIP Francois Segakware, crimes have significantly reduced in the 3 consecutive months of December 2012, January and February 2013.
Though crimes have reduced, violence, fighting, theft, use of drugs, defilement and rape are still persistent in the district. Violence and fighting are usually done under the influence of drugs especially local brew.
According to Colonel Jean Bosco Rutikanga the army commander in Nyamasheke and Rusizi district, resolutions to maintain security should be put in place and Security Councils should play their role and prevent crimes in all possible ways.
People in the general security assembly wished that people who commit crimes should be brought to justice to maintain order. Preventing crimes should be done especially by strengthening the night patrols to prevent theft.
Preventing idling of people was also agreed upon as a resolution to stable security and this will be done by having every individual that works in a certain trading center being identified in at least one cooperative.
Fighting illegal fishing that is done in Lake Kivu who fish young fish that might eventually destroying fishing in this lake that is so important to Nyamasheke people was also agreed upon by the security councils.
