Several Diplomats in Uganda at the Africa Day commemoration
Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda Frank Mugambage has today joined Ugandans in commemorating the Africa Day sometimes referred to as African Liberation day.
Africa Day is the annual commemoration resulting from the May 25, 1963 founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) that later became the African Union.
Mugambage said the event offers a great opportunity to sensitize and raise awareness among the general population but most importantly, among the youth who bear the responsibility to carry on the struggle for Africa’s emancipation.
The event held in Uganda’s capital Kampala has been attended by various diplomats and Uganda’s foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa.
Although African states gained independence, they are still underdeveloped compared to other parts of the world.
“.. Development is about more than money, machines or good policies- it is about real people and the lives they lead…” The Rwandan envoy quoted President Paul Kagame statement made during the World Economic Forum on Africa recently.

Mugambage told participants, “This is also the time to reflect on the liberation journey Africa has gone through, including the struggle for ending colonial occupation and embarking on building a future we desire and deserve.”
According to Mugambage, African group of Ambassadors in Uganda regularly retreat, once every end of month to engage in sharing information and building consensus on issues that concern us as a continent.
Such regular meetings between African diplomats have produced ideas submitted to the African Union that have essentially resulted in the AU Agenda 2063 and so are the many infrastructural projects initiated under the northern corridor framework.
“We need a youthful population that is zealous of harnessing opportunities and fully aware of the challenges,” Mugambage noted.

The Rwandan Envoy noted that the continent needs to significantly equip people with relevant knowledge and technology to exploit and add value to massive resources to solve the “Paradox” of an abundantly resourced Africa that has not transformed economically to enable the inhabitants’ quality of life.
To achieve this, Mugambage said, “All efforts should be made to add value to this vital human resource, by providing quality education, and building a culture of working hard and smarter and enhance creativity.”
