Now after successfully laying the necessary infrastructure the government says it’s ready to roll out the digital revolution as it moves towards achieving a technology lead economy by 2020.
Minister of Youth and ICT Jean Philbert Nsengimana says that the government is now embarking on digitising the services as well as ensuring that the economy is driven by technology.
“What we have been doing for the past years is to deploy the infrastructure across the country and the next step is to utilise this infrastructure through digitising our lifestyle,” he told this website on Tuesday.
Earlier this month, the government signed partnership with a drone company Ziplin from US to provide drones that will be used in distributing drugs and other health services across the country.
“This created a land mark success and it showed us that we are on the right track to achieve the digital revolution,” he added
Moreover, the Minister of Trade and industry Francois Kanimba which is currently rolling out technology in the trade and business in order to help foster competitiveness of Rwanda products.
“Even sectors where traditional production techniques remain dominant, continuous innovation and endless creativity are becoming the keys to greater competitiveness advantage,” the Minister added.
The Minister believes that technology is likely bolster growth as it provides more job opportunities for innovation to young people mainly in entertainment and creative industry.
“There is need to address existing bottlenecks in order for talented and innovative people to fuel the creative industries beyond a mere leisure and anchor it into a rewarding commercial activity.”
Under its priority areas towards driving the economy into a middle income by 2020 is to digitise all government services as well as helping the private sector to transact businesses online.
