Youth in the northern district of Gakenke on June 24 concluded the Urugerero National Civic Program designed for High School graduates country wide. The programme has been going on for the last six months country wide.
The youth who concluded this program in Gakenke district were asked to always live up to the standards of what they were taught in this program.
Jotham Twagizamahoro the youth coordinator in Gakenke Sector says after the 6 months of the civic training, they have participated in social works including preventing soil erosion, making vegetable gardens and building for vulnerable residents.
“We did different projects, we built houses for the vulnerable, taught others on the benefits of having family goals, sensitized others on family planning, nutrition and brought AIDS Awareness to them but most especially we achieved unity between us,” said Dorotia Mukantwari.
Janvier Bisengimana the executive secretary of Gakenke sector thanked the youth in this session of Urugerero program for carrying out projects that will develop the nation and Gakenke district in particular.
“Among the many projects these youth carried out, we are so proud of them to have taught adults to read and write to reduce illiteracy in the district,” Bisengimana said.
About 81 Senior Six leavers participated in Urugerero program in Gakenke sector and 1244 youth participated in this program from the 19 sectors of Gakenke district.
