President Paul Kagame during the meeting with opinion leaders in Musanze district
Local leaders in the Northern Province have apologized to President Kagame for their hand in the recent insecurity threats that hit the region.
Since March this year, executive Secretaries of three Sectors, cell leaders; the head of land Centre and President of a Sector advisory Council in Musanze District, Northern Province were arrested on accusation of working with FDLR-a terrorist group responsible for the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi holed up in the Congo jungles.
Taking the opportunity of President Kagame’s meeting with over 600 opinion leaders in Musanze District yesterday, the Governor of Northern Province, Aime Bosenibamwe apologised to the President on behalf of other leaders who ‘betrayed’ the Country by working with FDLR.
In a soft voice, Governor Bosenibamwe said: “Your excellency the President, in the name of those who betrayed our Country and tarnished our image, we collectively take the responsibility of their bad acts against the state. They voraciously lived with us and betrayed us. On behalf of leaders and the citizens of Northern Province, I take this opportunity to apologise for that,” said the Governor.
President Kagame, reacting to Governor’s apology, reminded opinion leaders in the Province the horrible history Rwanda went through, and asked them whether they wanted the same tragedy to befall the country again.
Kagame urged leaders to choose the right path that befit the Country. The President blamed the International Non-Governmental Organisations for pretending to be working for their governments and protecting human rights, yet they facilitate instabilities in the Country.
Rwanda ready to deal with any kind of Security threats
Speaking today at the 2nd graduation of military officers at Command and Staff College in Nyanama, Musanze District, President Kagame said that Rwanda is ready enough to deal with any kind of security threats, calling on military officers and leaders present to ensure that security becomes everybody’s concern.
“We don’t have to borrow lessons anywhere about our national security interests…we take full responsibility. Defence and security matters are not the preserve of the military alone but of all citizens. We have never been found wanting in ensuring the security of our people,” Kagame said.
President Kagame commended the military college for developing day by day, and appreciated the cooperation it inspired with the rest of EAC member states in combining efforts to preserve regional security.
“The partnership with East African Community states is fitting as our destinies are closely linked,” Kagame said.
