A group of fifty youths from around Kigali city have been equipped with skills to handle various trauma cases that are anticipated this coming week as Rwandans hold the 19 commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
The two day training was conducted by Live Again Rwanda (LAR) at IRDP in Gisozi from April 4th to 5th, 2013, in collaboration with the Kigali Memorial site.
LAR’s mission is to provide counseling to those in need and to provide counseling training to Rwandans, with a focus is to equip individuals with such skills and raise up confident lay counselors, capable of providing counseling and support to their fellow Rwandans.
The trainees were equipped with skills in handling basic, counseling skills, managing trauma cases, anger management among others
One of the beneficiaries, Alphonse Rusamaza, who has a previous training in conseling said that the training was very beneficial because of the practical skills.
“I am walking away very confident that I can handle trauma cases in my community because of the practical skills gained. Such trainings who be extensive and disseminated to more youths so that they can help their communities”
The project manager of LAR, Amos Furaha said that the organization sought it necessary to train the youths so that they can use the skills during the forthcoming commemoration.
“Our vision is to promote emotional healing through the provision of counseling and the teaching of counseling skills, encouraging Rwandans to journey beyond the darkness of their past into a brighter, healthier future, together as one nation”
Live Again Rwanda plays a vital role in the lives of Rwandans through its commitment to providing lay counseling training for the lay counselors of the future. Live Again believes that educating Rwandans on the basics of counseling will in turn increase their ability to offer support and care to one another.
Live Again Rwanda believes that through skill development Rwandans will be equipped with techniques to listen and journey with each other through the darkness of their past.
The 19th Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi will be marked starting April 7th, in each village (Umudugudu) under the theme “Let us commemorate the Genocide against the Tutsi as we strive for self reliance”
