After the government of Rwanda embarked on strict measures of fighting drug abuse and illegal liquor, residents near borders cross over to neighboring countries, use them and come back.
This was revealed during the meeting that was held in Muhanga district and chaired by Speciose Mukagahima from the Ministry of Youth and ICT.
The meeting saw the turn up of Anti-drug and illegal alcohol officials from all sectors of Muhanga district.
Speciose Mukagahima, in charge of drug abuse control at ministry of youth and information communication and technology discloses “residents cross over to use drugs and come back because they can’t risk bringing them to Rwanda.”
This is reported to be happening at Rwanda-Uganda borders where there are no definite demarcations like rivers allowing residents to cross and make it back anyhow.
The most reported is Gatuna border where Ugandans set up brewery factories and confirm the biggest clientele are Rwandans.
However, Mukagahima blames the problem on the fact that these residents listen to radios of neighboring countries instead of listening to Rwanda radio and follow government programs.
