Rwanda and Turkey signs memorandum of understanding

The Minister for foreign affairs of Rwanda Louise Mushikiwabo and the deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Beşir Atalay who was in a one day visit in Rwanda have recently signed a memorandum of understanding to expand both countries relationship.

Minister Atalay said he is happy to sign this agreement which comprises a lot that will be advantageous to both countries in the future depending on the step taken by Rwanda towards development.

“I am happy to be signing this agreement that will decide the relationship of both our countries in the future. I was surprised by the way Rwanda is developing and I believe that Turkey can have a special relationship with this country. And I believe that this agreement will be advantageous to both of us in the future.” Minister Atalay said.

Minister Mushikiwabo said that this agreement will be a cornerstone in the relationship of both countries and that it is the way of Rwanda of creating more friends. “We have signed agreements with many countries as Rwanda has been making its friends and Turkey is among first friends of Rwanda.” she said.

This memorandum of understanding will basically bring closer foreign affairs ministers in both countries and sharing ideas and in what is done on district level and international level will be in the interest of both countries.

It is also about security, health, education, tourism, agriculture, mining and private sectors. Minister Mushikiwabo thanked the government of Turkey for the support it gave Rwanda in bringing Rwandans who were in Libya back home safely in 2011 when the war started.
