President Kagame has assured residents of Gasabo district that the country is now moving on from its past and there is no need of getting stuck in it.
Kagame made the remarks while visiting residents of Gikomero Sector in Gasabo District, Kigali city, who gathered to meet and have a developmental discourse with various residents
“What happened in the past is behind us, we should look forward and work to ensure that the generations to come live a better life than us. We are on the right track, but the journey is still long, and we can only achieve what we want if we work together in unity.” Kagame said.
The president also assured residents that Rwanda cannot afford to solely depend on aid and urged Rwandans to be open minded and strive towards self-reliance since aid can at one time come to an end.
“Assistance has no guarantee; the one offering assistance can decide to stop without warning” he noted.
The residents hailed the president for his exemplary leadership and prayed that he (Kagame) grows strong in wisdom and stays health to lead the country to greater heights.
Gikomero residents also said that the government has been supportive to an extent that out of the five villages, three have electricity supply now.
Women leaders also applauded the president for giving them an opportunity to contribute to the nation’s development.
“There is a lot that you (the President) have done for us. We are now in leadership roles, we have formed cooperatives to enable us to earn and sustain our families. We are proud of this leadership and you should know this” one of the women said.
Kagame also availed time to interact with residents of Gasabo District, who had an opportunity to ask questions, present outstanding issues affecting their lives- these ranged from land disputes, conflicts and leaders delivering justice.
Kagame listened and intervened to all the queries and asked the government leaders especially the minister of local government and district officials to fast track their responsibility in resolving the issues as soon as possible.
